post 2- final character creation

Today we attempted to finalise who's doing what and it was decided that I'm doing the character design/line work and giving it to Chelsea to colour in Photoshop.

I followed Steve's idea of the young, Blonde woman called Laura and went back to his initial concept design.

It gave me something to work from, as I  didn't receive much in the way of constructive criticism from the group about my previous designs.  I thought the best thing to do would be to redesign it around Steve's idea.

This is my final design of Laura.  I didn't like how flat the concept idea was, or how much weight was on the top half of the character.  So I exaggerated her body shape to produce more of a curved appearance as I felt this made more of an appealing character.

Construction

This is how I constructed the character.  I gave these images to Steve so he'd have an easier time animating and working out the character's form.

work 1

My Concepts so far:

These are my initial rough, ideas on portraying the stereotype of the blonde woman.  It was also suggested that I look at other possible characters, other than the blonde.

At the moment, with this character, I'm not feeling very inspired by it.  I think it's because it's an over used stereotype and i'm digging around trying to find references to add something interesting to it.  I need to be more creative about it, but I guess I'll find something that will make it more appealing.  I'm going to continue to post other designs on at a later date.

Intro!

This is the first post to my animation blog whilst I'm at the University of Lincoln.  I'm using it to display and write about pieces of work as I progress through the remaining part of the 1st year until the end of final year.

Anyway! The class has been put into small groups, roughly 2 or 3 people and we've been asked to produce a 10-20 second Sting to show during the 3rd year degree show this summer.  My group consists of Steve-o (mr animator, editor and the creator of the sting idea), Chelsea (Layout artist) and me (Character designer and interior layout artist).    Although I don't have any major discrepancies with this at the moment, I can see us possibly ending up merging and doing a bit of everything.

The idea

Steve-o's idea consists of the Bosko character, attempting to scare, in Steve-o's interpretation, a "typical blonde bimbo".  If I'm completely honest, I'm not really much clearer about his idea.  I thought I was, but it seems to be changing a lot when I ask. I like the sting idea, as I think there are many aspects that could be very amusing, although, I feel it's a bit empty as it is - something's missing.    I'm looking forward to seeing what we come out with, I want us to push it, but it'll probably end up bordering on the ridiculous and illusive if it was down to me. So, my plan is to just throw a few ideas at the other 2 and hope they understand what I'm talking about!
